National Missionary Convention
Hey guys,
I don't know why I didn't think of this before...but it may be an inexpensive way for all of us to check out some Church Planting workshops, as well as meet more people from or interested in going to NZ. And we can all stay at our house...even Hamish and Molly if they would want to join us. (It would be Rory's dream come true!)
The National Missionary Convention is in Indianapolis this year (November 16-19). I looked on their Workshop Schedule (workshops are held on Friday and Saturday), and the following topics looked like they could be interesting for us:
- Multiplying Your Missions Dollars through Church Planting
- International Church Planting (at first I thought it said Intentional Church Planting, in which case it would really be for us)
- Church Plants and Short-Term Missions
- USA Ethnic Church Planting and Global Partnership
- Planting Churches Cross-Culturally
- Urban Church Planting
- The Importance of Working in Teams (might be good for us...it's taught by Doug Lucas, who helped start Team Expansion...he's usually a pretty good speaker)
- Planting Relevant Churches in a Post-Modern World
- Mini-Perspectives (good for Nate and anybody else who hasn't taken many Missions Classes...no offense, Nate)
- The Land Down-Under - Possibilities and Challenges

I THINK THAT'S A GREAT IDEA! Once again, Whitney comes through and out-does all of us. I'm so glad I married her. There are so many workshops that would be helpful! Perhaps, if everyone can come, we should split up and take notes, then share what we learned with each other. Oh! We could compile our notes and turn it into a book and entitle it Green Thumb: Church Planting if You're Dumb. But, seriously, I think we should do this. I hope Hamish and Molly will be around here for a while before they move far, far away. Maybe they would come back here for the missionary convention anyway.

I also think it is an awesome idea! Rory is so nice. The national missionary convention is one of my favorite things. I go whenever I can and it sounds like those will be some interresting and informative classes.

Whitney, last night I was reading something that Joe was working on for small groups and it said "intentional" and I thought is said something about international small groups and I was about to tell Joe that getting regualr small groups going for all students would be challenging enough, not to mention pulling in international students. Funny how our minds work huh? Then Joe told me you have the same problem with that word- I think that's great!

I started reading CPFTGU and I am learning a lot already. FYI: I have made 2 journal entries, and I feel more coming on. I feel like God might be revealing a passion for church planting that I didn't know I had...knowledge is power!
