Philosophies and plans
Hey guys,
I've been meaning to start this up for a while now, but I wanted to start having some discussions and studies on some of the core issues and policies that we are going to put in place for our church plant. (This is th fun part of planning a church--at least for me). We are in a unique position, in that we are not bound by any tradition as to what we should or should not do with our church. We can (and should) do our own studying to determine exactly what we are all about.
The first order on the list is a general philosophy on what church is, why we have it, and what it should look like. I thought we could each go away over the next few weeks and do some studying of the Bible, books, and other people. Then we could come back at the end and discuss it over a phone call or Skype call or something like that. How does that sound to y'all?

Hamish, I am pumped! This is what i am so excited about... planning and praying and thinking outside the box.
Yesterday I went to a workshop at LCC that a man named Rob Harris, from Kontact Ministries (church planting in Europe) taught.
He shared some church planting ideas and strategies - really "outside the box" kind of things - with us.
What I liked best was that he asked what elements does a church need to have in order to be a church, at the most basic level. Find those elements and build from there, rather than looking at churches how they are already done and just trying to improve it.
I think it would be helpful to look at believers in the New Testament and what was important to them and how they worked, then see what is cultural and what is nescessary.
Let's all pray that God gives us open minds and shows us what His will for this plant is and how that will look.
